Birth, Marriage & Death Certificate Translation

English translations of civil records needed for legal matters, and Australian certificates translated for use overseas.

What we translate

Civil records are the starting point of many legal matters: proving who a person is, who their parents were, whom they married or when they died. A Chinese 出生医学证明 or 结婚证, a Vietnamese giấy khai sinh, an Italian estratto per riassunto dell'atto di nascita, a Greek birth registry extract, a German Geburtsurkunde, a Spanish acta de nacimiento and a Polish odpis aktu zgonu each come in several versions, from short certificates to full copies of the register entry. We translate whichever version you have, in full.

What makes these documents tricky

The difficulty is usually in the margins. Full register entries carry annotations recording later events, such as a marriage, a divorce, a change of name, a legitimation or a death, and those notes can matter more than the main entry. We translate every annotation in place. Older records are often handwritten in registers, and some countries use other calendars, such as the Persian, Thai Buddhist, Japanese era or Republic of China calendars; dates are given as written with the Gregorian equivalent alongside. Names are spelled the way you tell us, so they match across every record in your matter.

Who needs it

Courts, registries and agencies set their own requirements, including which version of a certificate they want, so check with the body you are submitting to before you order.

Certified or professional translation?

Choose certified if the certificate will be used in legal proceedings or lodged with any official body. It is translated and certified by a NAATI certified translator. Choose professional translation (non-certified) for family history and reference copies. Company certification by Language Masters Pty Ltd is available on request for added assurance of accuracy.

How it works

Choose the certificate type on the quote form, then upload a clear scan or photo of the front and back of each certificate. Birth, marriage and death certificates in many languages are priced instantly. Your translation is delivered by email as a PDF.

Translation, not legal advice

We translate what your documents say. We do not advise on their legal effect, and we cannot confirm whether a particular court or agency will accept them. Please check requirements with the receiving body or your lawyer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order a birth, a marriage and a death certificate together?

Yes. Upload them in one order and choose the type that fits each document. They are translated together with consistent name spellings.

Are the margin notes on my certificate translated?

Yes. Every annotation, stamp and marginal note is translated where it appears on the original.

My certificate uses a different calendar. How are dates shown?

Dates are translated as they are written on the document. If the receiving body needs the date in another form, check with them before you order.

Can you tell me if this certificate proves my relationship for the estate?

No. We translate the record faithfully. What it proves in a legal matter is a question for your lawyer.
