English translations of overseas court orders, judgments and decrees, and translations of Australian orders for use abroad.
Court documents follow the conventions of the legal system that issued them. A Spanish sentencia, a Chinese civil judgment, a German Beschluss and an Italian decreto are each laid out differently, and each uses terms that have no exact equivalent in Australian law. We translate the document as it stands, keeping its structure, headings, case numbers, seals and court references so the translation can be read side by side with the original.
Most clients need a court document translated because an Australian body has asked to see it. Common situations include:
Requirements differ between courts, tribunals and agencies, so check with the body you are submitting to, or with your lawyer, before you order.
Choose certified if the translation will be submitted anywhere official. It is translated and certified by a NAATI certified translator. Choose professional translation (non-certified) for review, reference or business use, for example reading an overseas judgment before speaking to a lawyer. Company certification by Language Masters Pty Ltd is available on request for added assurance of accuracy.
Some courts also ask for a separate affidavit from the translator. Translator affidavits are quoted separately, where available. Mention it in your enquiry and we will tell you before you pay.
Upload a clear scan or photo of every page, including the back of any page that carries a seal, stamp or endorsement. Standard orders and judgments in many languages are priced instantly. Long judgments and bundles of court papers receive a written quote by email. Your translation is delivered by email as a PDF.
We translate what your documents say. We do not advise on their legal effect, and we cannot confirm whether a particular court or agency will accept them. Please check requirements with the receiving body or your lawyer.
We translate whatever you upload, in full. If you only need part of a long judgment, tell us which pages in your enquiry and we will quote for those pages.
Seals, stamps, signatures and handwritten notes are described or translated in place, so the reader can see where each one appears on the original. Anything illegible is marked as illegible rather than guessed.
Translator affidavits are quoted separately, where available. Please mention it when you submit your documents.
