English translations of Croatian court, registry and notarial documents, and Australian documents translated into Croatian.
Croatian courts include Municipal Courts (Općinski sud), County Courts (Županijski sud), the High Commercial Court and the Supreme Court (Vrhovni sud Republike Hrvatske). Inheritance proceedings are commonly conducted by a notary (javni bilježnik) on behalf of the municipal court. Civil status is recorded in the state registers (državne matice).
Croatian and Serbian legal vocabulary overlap but are not the same. Croatian uses rješenje where Serbian uses rešenje, and Croatian has its own words for many institutions and months. A translation from the wrong variety reads oddly to anyone who knows the language, so Croatian documents are handled as Croatian.
Many families hold documents issued under the former Yugoslavia alongside newer Croatian ones, and the same village may appear under different municipality names. We translate the names as printed. Land matters are a common reason for translation, and Croatian land register extracts list ownership shares, encumbrances and cadastral parcel numbers (katastarske čestice) in a layout the translation keeps intact. The personal identification number (OIB) is reproduced exactly.
Names keep their diacritics, č, ć, đ, š and ž, as they appear on the document; if your passport omits them, send a copy so the translator can take its spelling into account. Married women may carry a double surname. An inheritance decision usually names every heir and their share in fractions, which are reproduced exactly.
We translate Australian documents into Croatian: powers of attorney for property in Croatia, death certificates and wills for inheritance, divorce orders and statutory declarations. Croatian notaries and courts usually want an apostille, and some want a translation by a Croatian court interpreter, so check with them before you order.
Many Croatian certificates can now be issued electronically through the e-Građani system with a verification code. Upload the PDF so the code stays legible. Land register extracts can run to many pages for a single property with several owners; tell us if you only need some of them.
We translate what your documents say. We do not advise on their legal effect, and we cannot confirm whether a particular court or agency will accept them. Please check requirements with the receiving body or your lawyer.
