English translations of Korean court and family register documents, and Australian documents translated into Korean.
Korean family records have been issued as separate certificates since the old family head register (호적) was abolished. Each certificate shows a different slice of a person's record, and the issuing body is the court-administered family relationship registration system, so documents from a local district office carry the same structure wherever they were printed.
Korean certificates come in general (일반) and detailed (상세) versions, and the detailed version can show past marriages, divorces and changes that the general one leaves out. The translation states which version you hold. Names may appear in Hangul and in Hanja, and the romanised spelling on a passport often differs from standard romanisation, so send a copy of your passport with your order.
Dates run year, month, day. Resident registration numbers are reproduced as printed, including any masking applied by the issuing office. A divorce by agreement goes through a confirmation step at the family court and is then reported to the district office, so it may produce more than one document; we translate each one rather than merging them. Registered seals (인감) and court stamps are described where they appear.
Property and corporate registration extracts use dense tabular layouts, which we keep so the translation can be read against the original.
We translate Australian documents into Korean: divorce orders and certificates for reporting in Korea, powers of attorney, statutory declarations, police checks and company documents. Korean offices may want an apostille or consular steps, so check with the receiving office first.
Korean certificates issued online through the family relationship registration service run by the courts, or at a district office, carry an issue number and a verification code at the foot of each page. Upload every page so these are included. If you are ordering both a basic certificate and a family relation certificate, upload them together and we will keep names and dates consistent across both. If a Korean office has already issued an English version, check with the body you are submitting to before you order.
We translate what your documents say. We do not advise on their legal effect, and we cannot confirm whether a particular court or agency will accept them. Please check requirements with the receiving body or your lawyer.
That depends on what the body you are submitting to has asked for. Check with them whether they want the general or detailed version. We translate whichever you upload.
