Persian (Farsi) Legal Document Translation

English translations of Iranian court, notary and civil registration documents, and Australian documents translated into Persian.

Persian legal documents we commonly see

Most Persian legal documents we translate come from Iran. Family cases are heard by the Family Courts (دادگاه خانواده) and civil cases by the general courts, with appeals to the provincial appeal courts. Marriages and divorces are registered at official notary offices (دفتر اسناد رسمی) licensed for marriage and divorce, and births by the National Organization for Civil Registration (سازمان ثبت احوال).

What makes Persian legal documents tricky

Iranian documents use the Solar Hijri calendar (Shamsi), whose year begins at the March equinox. A date such as 1402/05/12 is easy to convert wrongly, so the date is translated as written on the document. Persian numerals (۱۴۰۲) appear alongside Western ones on many forms.

A marriage document records the mahrieh (مهریه), often expressed in gold coins, and conditions agreed by the couple; a divorce document names the type of divorce. These terms have no Australian equivalent, so the Persian term may be kept in transliteration. We do not comment on their legal effect. The shenasnameh records marriages, divorces and children on its annotation pages, and every page you upload is translated, including blank fields marked as such.

Names may be spelled in many ways in English, such as Hosseini or Husseini. A copy of your passport helps keep spellings consistent. Documents from Afghanistan in Dari can be quoted by choosing Dari on the quote form.

English into Persian for use overseas

We translate Australian documents into Persian: divorce orders, powers of attorney for property in Iran, statutory declarations and police checks. Iranian offices may have their own legalisation steps, so check with the receiving office before you order.

Preparing Persian documents

Iranian marriage and divorce documents are booklets with many printed pages, and conditions agreed by the couple may sit on pages that look blank at first glance. Scan every page. Copies certified by an Iranian notary carry the notary office number and a stamp across the page, so include the full page. Court judgments printed from the electronic judicial system carry a tracking number and a barcode, which are reproduced in the translation.

Translation, not legal advice

We translate what your documents say. We do not advise on their legal effect, and we cannot confirm whether a particular court or agency will accept them. Please check requirements with the receiving body or your lawyer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Shamsi dates translated?

Solar Hijri dates are translated as written on the document. If the body you are submitting to needs a Gregorian date, check with them before you order.

Which pages of my shenasnameh do you translate?

Every page you upload. Send all pages that carry entries, including the marriage, divorce and children pages, unless the body you are submitting to has asked for fewer.

Do you translate Dari documents from Afghanistan?

Yes. Choose Dari on the quote form so the documents go to a Dari translator.

Need a Legal Document Translated?
