English translations of Polish court, civil status and notarial documents, and Australian documents translated into Polish.
Polish courts are organised as district courts (Sąd Rejonowy), regional courts (Sąd Okręgowy), courts of appeal (Sąd Apelacyjny) and the Supreme Court (Sąd Najwyższy). Divorce cases start at a regional court. Civil status records are kept by the Civil Registry Office (Urząd Stanu Cywilnego, USC).
Polish surnames change with gender, so a husband named Kowalski and his wife named Kowalska share one family name. Names also decline by grammatical case, so the same person can appear as Jan, Jana or Janem in a single judgment. The translation gives the name in its base form while keeping it identifiable against the original.
A full copy of a civil status record (odpis zupełny) carries marginal annotations recording later events, such as a divorce or a change of name, that a short copy (odpis skrócony) leaves out. We translate every annotation. A judgment becomes final at a later point and may bear a separate finality clause (klauzula prawomocności); we translate whatever is stamped on your copy and do not explain its effect.
Polish diacritics, ą, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź and ż, are kept in names and place names. Older records may use the names of voivodeships or districts that have since been reorganised.
We translate Australian documents into Polish: birth, marriage and divorce documents for transcription into Polish civil registers, powers of attorney for property, statutory declarations and police checks. Polish offices may want an apostille or a translation by a Polish sworn translator, so check with them before you order.
Copies of civil status records ordered from a USC are now usually printed from the electronic register and carry the record number and the issuing office at the top. Scan the whole page, including that header. Multilingual extracts on the international form still have entries to translate.
We translate what your documents say. We do not advise on their legal effect, and we cannot confirm whether a particular court or agency will accept them. Please check requirements with the receiving body or your lawyer.
That depends on what the body you are submitting to wants, so check with them. We translate either, including all marginal annotations on a full copy.
Polish surnames take different forms for men and women. The translation shows each name exactly as written.
